The Argus: Pharoahs

Pharoahs

From: Heathfield, Tunbridge Wells and Otford.

Profile: Formed in Tunbridge Wells in 2008 from the ashes of underground band HPR, Pharoahs are set to release their second album Photosynthesis in the UK at the end of May through Centurion Records.

The past year has seen the four-piece earn support slots with The Subways, Battles, Glassjaw and Young Guns in tours across the UK and Europe.

They’ve also featured heavily on BBC Radio Kent’s Introducing show, as well as single Squashed Against My Wall being named Steve Lamacq’s Unsigned Track Of The Week on BBC 6Music, and being highlighted in Rock Sound Magazine’s Great New Bands column.

They describe their sound as math-pop-rock, combining ultra-melodic vocals with big pop choruses and techy riffs.

Their debut album was recorded in 2009, the same year they were signed to All Aboard Records for a download deal and an EP – the Simpsons-inspired We’ve Tried Nothing And We’re All Out Of Ideas.

The band made their European debut in February 2010, when they launched their debut album in Lille with French label Hiphiphip.

Since then they have played shows in France, Germany and Luxembourg, and are planning another album for release later this year or early 2012.

New single Drift Away is being released this month.
