The Argus: Download of the Week
The Argus: Phoria

Phoria

From: Brighton

Influences: Radiohead, Elbow, Mew, Sigur Ros, Joanna Newsom, Patrick Watson, Explosions In The Sky, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Muse, Bjork and The Cinematic Orchestra.

Profile: Five-piece Phoria have been making music together since they were 11-year-olds, but only came together as a band in 2006.

They have made a name for themselves through support slots with Dodgy, Gorillaz collaborators Little Dragon, and as part of this summer's Playgroup Festival.

The band caught the attention of producer Dan Lucas while playing a show at Lewisham’s Dirty South. The producer offered his time for free to help the band record their debut EP, Yourself Still, at Kent’s Anchor Baby studios. The EP, which was released in August, is available as a pay-what-you-want download at www.phoria.bandcamp.com
