The Argus: Saint Etienne

Saint Etienne

From: Croydon, London and Brighton

Profile: Childhood friends Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs originally started Saint Etienne as a project using guest vocalists, taking its name from a French football team.

Once Sarah Cracknell joined the fold in 1990 for the song Nothing Can Stop Us on classic debut Foxbase Alpha, the line-up was crystallised.

Having started out as part of the Second Summer Of Love indie dance set, the band developed their sound to embrace electronica, and also film soundtracks, with their 2002 album Finisterre.

Earlier this year the band released their ninth studio album Words And Music By Saint Etienne.
