The Argus: Salter Cane

SalterCane

From: Brighton and London

Influences: Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Joy Division and Johnny Cash.

Profile: Salter Cane released their second album Sorrow last year with a show at London’s legendary 100 Club. The nine-song new release, which was recorded at Brighton’s Metway Studios, is packed full of their trademark “melancountria”, combining gothic country, post-punk sensibilities and folk-noir to tell what they describe as “tales of whiskey-soaked madness, bloodied hands and long dark nights of the soul”. The album follows on from the 2008 EP Black Swollen River, and the band’s self-titled debut from 2007.
