Shona Foster

From: Brighton via Yorkshire and Scotland

Influences: Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Portishead, Joanna Newsom, Kate Bush and Ella Fitzgerald

Profile: Monday, October 26, sees Shona Foster release her debut EP Hard Work on Beach Hut Records, showcasing her mix of symphony hall strings and piano with junkyard percussion and her beautiful voice. Born in Scotland, Shona moved down to Brighton from Yorkshire to bring her songs to life. Tracks from the five-track EP have already been played by Gideon Coe on his BBC 6Music show. And check out Shona’s video for lead track Hard Work, combining Victorian mourning dress with a kind of spooky cabaret. Look out for an album due for release in 2010.
