The Argus: Download of the Week
The Argus: stuart newman

Stuart Newman

From: Brighton

Influences: The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, REM, Radiohead, The Dandy Warhols, Queens Of The Stone Age, Green Day, Feeder, Nirvana, Don McLean, Alkaline Trio and My Chemical Romance.

Profile: Self-taught on the piano and guitar, Stuart Newman already has one acoustic-driven album to his credit, Single But Defective, and is starting work on its follow-up.

The home-produced album, which was released as a free download in 2009, was highlighted by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6 Music show.

For his newer recordings Newman has moved into Hove’s AudioBeach studios.

“I wanted a sound that matched my progression as a songwriter, captured my progresses and hinted at things to come,” he says.

One such example is this week’s free download.

He is currently continuing experiments in audio and video, alongside penning new material for his next album, eschewing live appearances to focus on his songwriting.
