The Splendour

From: Brighton

Influences: Cake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gomez, Frank Zappa, The Stooges, Supergrass, Sparks, The Kinks, 12 Stone Toddler, Beck.

Profile: Monday sees the debut album by Brighton indie-rockers The Splendour hit record stores across the country. The Best Way To Make Money was created by Brighton’s own Justin Gourlay, with guitarist John Crick, bassist Greg Houghton, keyboard player Richard Keble and Michyi Riberos on drums.

The five-piece gained national attention when their first single Audio got them listed as Ones To Watch on Kerrang! Radio, and featured in Fresh Meat on Zane Lowe’s influential Radio One show. The single was followed in July by Money, which was NME Radio’s single of the week.

The band’s video of them shoplifting from Brighton shops was banned from MTV. The album’s release follows the band’s appearance at Beachdown last weekend.
