AS international football teams convene on Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, Brighton's Big Screen is returning to broadcast a selection of the games and more for the next four weeks.

Launching with its own foosball tournament at 5pm on Thursday, June 12, in association with Brighton And Hove Albion, the big screen coverage on the beach by the Wheel begins in earnest with the World Cup opening ceremony at 7pm and the first game between Brazil and Croatia at 9pm.

None of the 11pm kick-offs are on the programme, with access to England's first group games against Uruguay and Costa Rica allowed only through pre-registration through the website.

But the screen, which is being powered by a biodiesel generator using waste vegetable oil from the UK, has teamed up with Jose Cuervo to provide a selection of classic movies, live Wimbledon coverage and the British Grand Prix alongside the footy.

Among the movie highlights are children's classics The Lego Movie (U) and ET (U) plus a weekend kids club, teenage favourite Hunger Games - Catching Fire (12A), romantic dramas Dirty Dancing (12) and A Promise (12A), comedies Alpha Papa (15) and Bridesmaids (15), the Oscar-nominated Captain Phillips (12A) and War Horse (12A), and horror classics Jaws (12A) and Hammer's 1958 take on Dracula (15).

Plus there are special screenings of Fatboy Slim's Incredible Adventures In Brazil on Tuesday, June 24, the British Sea Power-soundtracked From The Sea To The Land Beyond on Saturday, June 21, and short film showcases from the Beyond The Wave Festival, BFI and University Of Brighton students.

And Shoreham guitarist Richard Durrant will be giving a special performance of his Cycling Music on Sunday, June 15, having completed his national tour on two wheels travelling for 1,500 miles up and down the country.
