IT’S the last big weekend of the summer, and whether we have the blistering sunshine of last Saturday, or the torrential downpour of Sunday there is plenty to do around Brighton and Sussex.

MODERNISTS, Brighton and bank holidays have been connected ever since the infamous beach clashes between the rockers in the mid-1960s.

The New Untouchables weekend mixes free daytime events at The Volks, including live music, record fairs and scooter ride-outs, with late night parties at Komedia, now sold out, and the Fuzz 4 Freaks Garage and Psych Weekender at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, which costs £11 per night. On the bill at Sticky Mike’s are Les Grys Grys, The Magnetic Mind and The Carnations.

Exhale Yoga Festival

YOGA and rave culture meet in this weekend retreat, encouraging up to 300 festivalgoers to move, feast, stretch and unwind in the centre of the Downs.

During the day there are sessions with top yoga teachers, as well as the chance to experience Brighton’s Morning Gloryville daytime rave session. And in the evening DJs including Warrior One, Charlie Dark, and Black Fan are joined by Left By Humans and up-and-coming singer-songwriters.

THE Wedding Present’s David Gedge hosts his seventh annual seafront festival.

On the bill are My Life Story, The Woodentops, The Nightingales, Cinerama and The Fiction Aisle with The Wedding Present performing their 1996 album Saturnalia in full over two nights.

Two Three Four Festival

PROMOTERS It’s Magic are staging their last ever Broadway Music Festival this August bank holiday, but are going out with a bang, mixing Greek folk, classical music, jazz, folk, operatic arias and rock covers.

On the bill are The Sussex Stompers, The Voice’s Stephen Bloy, and covers bands The Super Sonic 70s, Re-Take That, Mainly Madness and The Bohemians.

FROM a village revue to a car boot sale and dog show there’s something for everyone at this weekend’s Alfriston Summer Festival.

Take a village tour, or join in the beret or welly boot throwing over the four-day event, which features a kids’ fun day today from 1pm.

Shoreham Riverfest

FOLLOWING last weekend's tragedy at Shoreham Airshow this year's celebration of life on the river takes on a slightly more sombre tone, with a commemorative Bridge Of Light event on the Adur Ferry Bridge from 7.30pm tomorrow. The Endless Summer event at the marquee on Coronation Green is now free and will start afterwards.

The Dragonboat race along the Adur river is still going ahead on Sunday, with currently 17 boats taking part. Look out for live music across the town and family fun in the marquee throughout the weekend.

Aerial Birdman

DAREDEVILS can fly down Bognor’s London Road this weekend along a 150m zipwire allowing them to reach up to 30mph.

Anyone who doesn’t dare to follow in the footsteps of Superman themselves are encouraged to come down and watch the fun going on 15m above their heads – and support those flying for charity.

ST PETER and St James Hospice is hosting this fun day to celebrate the end of the 40th anniversary Open Gardens 2015 programme.

On the bill are a fun fair, bouncy castle, stalls, refreshments and the miniature railway, which will be donating some of the proceeds to the hospice.

Golden Anniversary Celebration

BORDE Hill Garden is being transported back to the 1960s to celebrate 50 years of being open to the public.

Visitors are being encouraged to wear 1960s fashion, and covers band The BB Collective will be providing the tunes to accompany vintage cakes and sandwiches. Current owner Andrewjohn Stephenson Clarke will lead a series of talks around the gardens which were created by his great grandfather.

Tap Jam

BRIGHTON Tap Festival launches with a tap jam – allowing any tapper to improvise live on stage to a jazz song of their choice, as played by the Michelle Drees Jazz Trio.

Brighton Big Screen

There’s plenty for the kids over the bank holiday weekend, starting at 2pm each day with Paddington (PG) today, the 2015 live action Cinderella (U) tomorrow, a Frozen Sing-along (PG) on Sunday, and The Big Hero 6 (PG) on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cult 1980s favourites take over for the afternoon, with The Goonies (12A) today from 5.30pm, Dirty Dancing (15) tomorrow from 5.30pm, and Top Gun (12A) on Sunday, from 5pm.

The epic musical Les Miserables (12A) is on Bank Holiday Monday from 5pm, with a darker musical favourite from Stephen Sondheim Sweeney Todd (18) tomorrow from 8pm.

There are more late night screenings this weekend, with the celebration of Manchester’s Factory label 24-Hour Party People (18) from 8pm tonight, Mod classic Quadrophenia (18) on Sunday from 7.45pm and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel (15) from 8.30pm.

Plus there are the Big Beach Shorts every day from 4.30pm.
