AN accessible and affordable art sale featuring established names takes place on the closing day of the Fringe.

The Art Yard Sale is back following a successful outing last year.

Market stalls manned by 26 artists will transform Jubilee Square, creating a what organisers predict to be a bustling treasure trove for contemporary and street art fans.

The fair sees paintings, drawings and sculpture as well as oddities like Lucy Sparrow's bric a brac made entirely from felt, typical of car boot sales.

The show is organised by artrepublic, the Brighton art gallery based in Bond Street and official Brighton Fringe visual arts sponsor.

Founder and curator Lindsay Alkin says, “We’ve been looking forward to this event since last year and can’t think of a better way to close Brighton Fringe.

"Even with bad weather, the first Art Yard Sale was a roaring success, with more than 1,000 people braving the elements to see the artists in action and grab themselves unique artworks.

“As well as the best local talent, this year we’ve got some big international artists confirmed."

There were 14 artists involved in last year's event.

Among the 26 confirmed artists this year are Ben Eine, Eelus, Aroe, Maria Rivans, Magda Archer, Pure Evil and Ryan Callanan.

Lindsay adds, "It’s a really fantastic opportunity to meet the artists and even commission your own piece of art for a snip of its true value.”

Half of the artists taking part are city residents.

Brighton-based artist Sara Pope, who has in the past presented a painting to her arch Catholic namesake, says, "I'm thrilled to be taking part in the Art Yard Sale again.

"Last year was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed chatting to people interested in my work who I don't always get to meet, plus meeting and seeing the work of all the talented artists taking part. All in all it's a great day out."

Each of the artists taking part will be creating unique, one-off pieces and commissions from their stands.

With all art on sale priced between £25-£250, the Art Yard Sale aims to make art more accessible and affordable for all.

Another exhibitor, Graham Carter, hosting a monster lucky dip, added: "The format intrigued me. I've done plenty of art exhibitions but never in the street or with an opportunity to demonstrate my printmaking up close and personal like this.

"It's a rare chance to meet your buyers face to face and to offer something they may cherish."

The Art Yard Sale will take place from 11am-5pm.
