It’s not only the setting that’s changed with Churchill Square’s revamp. Three new food outlets have also opened in the popular city centre shopping centre.

Famed for its classic approach to old-world Americana fare - with burgers, hot dogs and fries combined with 1950s rock ’n’ roll from table-top “dime” boxes - Ed’s Easy Diner has become a national success story.

The simple, unchanging recipe has seen Ed’s Easy Diner become the fastest growing restaurant chain in the UK and Churchill Square is one of ten new branches opening this year.

All the favourites - from the Big Bubba’s Bacon N'Cheese to the Blues Burger and the milkshakes - remain as constant as the music, which is always 1950s and early 1960s and American, but such is the demand for pulled pork, the barbecue favourite has been added to the menu.

"We're thrilled to be bringing our 26th site to Brighton,” says Andrew Guy, CEO.

“Now those who love this timeless seaside resort can indulge in a touch of 1950s nostalgia at Ed's too.

“We hope the residents and many tourists who descend every year will love our all-American menu including delicious hot dogs, burgers and our famous milkshakes.”

Auntie Anne’s pretzel bakery started at a Pennsylvania farmer’s market in 1988. Its owners Anne and Jonas Beiler wanted to provide free counselling to families in their community and purchased the stand to make the income needed for their vision.

More than 25 years later the pretzel recipe they honed at that humble stand is sold in 30 countries and has become a multinational brand.

The takeaway sells both sweet and savoury pretzels with flavours from chocolate to cheese and jalapeno.

As well as pretzels there are pretzel dogs, pretzel nuggets and classic pretzel stix for a snack.

Auntie Anne’s operations director James Macisaac says. “We are very pleased to be in Brighton, what a lovely city.

“We can’t wait to show the customers how we prepare pretzels from scratch in store, then roll, twist and bake each and every one right in front of their eyes.

“As well as that, we’ve got fresh lemonade, a great team, and a pretzel with your name on it.”

The Italian Kitchen - formerly Café Giardino - promises Italian classics as well as much-loved seaside favourites served seven days a week.

Sandwiches, panini, pizza and a range of salads will be on the new menu alongside fish and chips, as well as afternoon tea of finger sandwiches, scones and cakes served either with a pot of English tea or a glass of Italian sparkling prosecco.

Tina Dallorzo, centre director at Churchill Square, says, “We're delighted to have such a fresh and exciting range of new eateries opening their doors in the centre this summer.

“They’re all brands which mirror our ongoing vision of delivering great food and more choice for our customers at Churchill Square.”
