As the summer begins to wane it’s time to bring in the harvest. The next few weekends see a series of food celebrations across Sussex. Duncan Hall picks out some of the biggest events.

Worthing Food And Drink Festival Pavilion Theatre and seafront, Marine Parade, Worthing, Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24 HAVING attracted between 12,000 and 15,000 visitors in its old Steyne Gardens home, Worthing Food And Drink Festival is moving to a new location for its third event.

Special guest on Sunday, August 24, is celebrity chef and TV star Rosemary Shrager, who taught the reality television show contestants haute cuisine in Ladette To Lady, and was a judge on Soapstar Superchef. She will be giving cookery demonstrations at noon and 2pm, before a book signing at 3.15pm Guests including Gusto Wines, Biryani House, Fish Factory, The Good Cook Shop, Vice Puddings, and Denton Lounge will be leading more demonstrations and tastings on both days.

And the stage programme also features an omelette challenge and a children’s biscuit decorating competition.

Sussex Beer Festival Tudor Close Pub And Kitchen, Ferringham Lane, South Ferring, Friday, August 22, to Monday, August 25 FERRING pub and kitchen is celebrating the work of 18 real ale brewers from across the country this weekend.

The pub will have a selection of 20 Sussex-brewed real ales and ciders on the bar, from big local names including Dark Star, Harveys, Arundel and Hepworth, as well as Adur brewers Anchor Springs and Listers from Littlehampton, Naked from Lancing and Goldmark and Hammerpot from Poling near Angmering.

Wealden Food And Wine Festival Pevensey Castle, Castle Road, Pevensey, Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31 NEXT weekend sees the launch of the first Wealden Food And Wine Festival in the grounds of Pevensey Castle, mixing cookery demonstrations with live music.

The special guest demonstrator on both days is chef Olly Dawson, sharing his secrets from working in the best kitchens in Italy, France and London.

The live music programme includes performances by The MFC Chickens, The Big Blue, The Skatatones and The Cajun Dawgs on Saturday, and The Harry Court Band, Stone Junction and Soul X Press performing a Blues Brothers show on Sunday.

Within the castle walls visitors can explore more than 30 food stalls from local producers drawn from a 30-mile radius of Pevensey – including Bluebell Vineyard, Long Man Brewery and Downsview Farm. And there’s a programme of living history workshops ranging from dark age crafts to archery for youngsters.

Still to come n Brighton and Hove Food And Drink Festival Across Brighton and Hove, Thursday, September 4, to Sunday, September 14 TOMORROW a bus packed with wine connoisseurs will be traversing Sussex's Bolney and Ridgeview vineyards ahead of the main Brighton And Hove Food And Drink Festival.

A celebration of Sussex-produced goodies, the festival hosts two free food markets in Hove Lawns and New Road, as well as a series of special suppers and tastings throughout the two weeks.

Horsham District Food And Drink Festival Across Horsham, Saturday, September 6, to Sunday, October 5 THE 12th annual celebration of local produce opens on Saturday, September 6, with The Big Nibble Festival Market in Carfax, featuring stalls from Sussex producers and restaurants, plus a new Gastro Market to expand the number of stalls in 2014.
