THE expression “it’s too good to share” certainly proved true during my visit to Into The Blue.

I never thought an argument could almost erupt over food – but then, I’d never helped myself to my partner’s starter at this seafood restaurant.

He was so aghast when I took some of the salmon pate from his plate without permission, that we almost didn’t make it to our main course.

Luckily, I was able to offer a piece of my scallop in return.

The offending pate came with one of the specials of the night, home cured salmon with coleslaw, beetroot chutney and crisp bread.

I also opted for one of the specials, scallops wrapped in parma ham with butternut squash and watercress puree.

Both dishes tasted as beautiful as they were presented, but I was a little disappointed with the portion-sizes.

While my partner tucked into a slate of delicious seafood, I ate my two scallops as slowly as possible.

Fortunately, the buzz and relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant meant I was quite happy to sip my wine while patiently waiting for him to finish.

For mains, I chose the fillet of monkfish with basil and lemon mash, black olive salsa, sundried tomato and watercress salad.

The variety of flavours made the dish not only thoroughly enjoyable but quite interesting to eat.

From the main menu, my partner opted for the surf and turf with fillet steak and king prawns, onion rings, chips, tomatoes and mushrooms.

It might be a seafood restaurant, but the chefs clearly know how to cook a good steak too.

Our deserts, brownie with ice cream and a lemon posset crushed meringue, summer berries and lemon cream, almost looked too good to eat and went down well along with a dessert wine.

After our three-courses, the restaurant’s location meant we could take a stroll along the beach – surely the perfect way to end an evening after enjoying a taste of the ocean?

With a reputation of being one of Sussex’s finest seafood restaurants, it certainly has a lot to live up to.

But I’m inclined to agree with the claim and would definitely recommend the restaurant for both an informal or special occasion.

I’d also recommend the home cured salmon if it makes an appearance on the specials board again.

Just remember that it’s too good to share for argument’s sake.
