AN Indian restaurant is set to open its doors on Christmas Day for the first time in its 14-year history following demand from customers.

“Regulars have been requesting us to open on Christmas Day for some years and it is something our staff are keen to do,” says Minesh Agnihotri, co-owner of Indian Summer in East Street.

“It’s surprising how many people tell they like the big family gathering, but find the prospect of a dry turkey and bland vegetables underwhelming – others dread all the preparation and washing up.”

The seven-course lunch will cost £75 per head, including a parsnip and cumin soup appetizer, fillet of mahi mahi fish, spiced goose breast, and coconut uttapam with rose water roasted fruits and coconut sorbet.

The restaurant will also be host a charity lunch in aid of Find Your Feet and Curry Tree good causes on Sunday, October 17, as part of National Curry Week.

The four dishes served will cost £17.95, with £5 from each dish going to charity.

On the menu are murgh makhni, a corn-fed supreme breast marinated in Awadhi spice-mix and cooked in the tandoor, lamb zafrani, pork belly vindaloo and a shakahari mezze of roasted peanut aubergine, tandoori paneer and cauliflower with a smoked malai sauce.
