BOTH the Festival and Fringe are getting in the summer spirit with a pair of specially brewed beers.

Brighton Fringe has teamed up with Brighton-based The Laine Brewing Company to create Fringe Benefit while the Brighton Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary with Art Party brewed by Hepworth near Horsham.

Art Party is a festival lager which is gluten free, suitable for vegans, and will be stocked at the Brighton Dome throughout the month-long arts extravaganza.

Independent brewery Hepworth was founded by Andy Hepworth in 2000, who was once the youngest head brewer in the UK when at long-established Horsham brewery King and Barnes.

Fringe Benefit was created in collaboration with Caledonian Brewery from Edinburgh, and will also be served up at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The light IPA style beer will be available in pubs across the city such as North Laine Brewhouse, East Street Tap and Dead Wax Social as well as Fringe venues such as the Spiegeltent on the Old Steine.

Nic Donald, head brewer at The Laine Brewing Company, said: “The Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe are the two most important arts festivals in the UK. As breweries based in these amazing cities, a collaboration between Caledonian and Laine's makes perfect sense.

“We wanted to create a beer that reflects that spirit, so we created a vibrant IPA that is packed full of interest and flavour, but is light and 'sessionable' enough to be drunk at any time of day, or performance. It really is an ale of two cities.”

Craig Steven, beer manager at Caledonian, added: “Fringe Benefit is a deliciously refreshing Session IPA that we worked together with Nic to perfect.

"We were delighted to collaborate with the guys at Laine’s to create this special edition and show them around the brewery up here. Brighton’s beer drinkers are in for a treat.”
