This week sees the release of 25-year-old Brighton student Corrina Taylor’s debut single, Always Coming Back, on Allied Songwriters Music.

The song took off after it received a whirlwind of interest from BBC Introducing and led to a Kickstarter campaign to make a video on Valentine’s Day.

Taylor, who left copies of the single scattered around London earlier this month ahead of its release, talks about her little fish and what she has planned next...

“I always get excited when I write a song. Every time I write one I think it is the best I have ever written, although it’s usually not. I’ve got about two albums of songs to record but it’s a slow process choosing the right ones.

“When I wrote Always Coming Back, I felt it was different to what I had done before. I wrote it on my sofa at home in Cambridge. I never thought it would be such a huge part of my life two years later. Four or five BBC Introducing shows played it. In Hull, where I went to university, they playlisted it.

“I came to Brighton in a funny phase in my life. As a creative person, you go through a stage where you either do it or you don’t. It’s such a big risk to throw everything into a passion when you’re not guaranteed any money from it. I wanted to do music but everyone around me was saying I should get some stability. I found a course in Brighton at Access To Music, which has been really great. It’s given me confidence, I’ve met lots of different people and I’m surrounded by things I love doing. I’m going into the studio in May – I’ve clicked with a producer, Ricardo, we understand each other’s vibe. I’ve had a song called Karma accepted on an online television series which is quite exciting.

“My followers have been really great – I call them the little fish as I feel like I’m a little fish in a big pond. It doesn’t scare me though. I hope everything will keep going. I launched a Kickstarter campaign to make a video. It took about three weeks to reach the target of £1,000. It was my favourite day ever – even though the shoot was absolutely freezing. I had a hot water bottle to hold between shots.

“I want to do supports for other bands and I’m looking at festivals for the summer. It’s growing slowly – I’m not expecting miracles, just taking baby steps.”
