Electronic pioneers Simian Mobile Disco have summoned their regular set designers to create a large scale visual show for the second earsthetic festival.
As the London duo tackle tracks from recent album Whorl at the five-day Brighton Dome event, the music will be run through an oscilloscope by visual artists Jack Featherstone and Hans Lo.
Other highlights in the festival, which aims to “celebrate artists who break new ground with their symbiosis of sound and visuals”, include a world premiere by experimental pianist and earsthetic artist-in-residence Sarah Nicolls.
Nicolls has invented an Inside Out Piano and its strings, struts and soundboard have been exposed to allow her to create new sounds. The piano will be moved around the stage during her Moments Of Weighlessness show and be on show in the Dome Cafe Bar for the visitors to try throughout the festival.
Bristol duo Emptyset will explore the physical properties of sound as it passes through electromagnetism and architecture at a show at the Dome Studio Theatre.
Composer and artist Claudia Molitor has invited artists to share images and videos from their most intimate spaces, their desks, for The View Behind My Desk.
Brighton Dome venues, Monday, December 8, to Saturday, December 13 Times and prices vary. Call 01273 709709 to book tickets.
