IN the week their new EP Jupiter Masterdrive is released digitally on electronic label WotNot Music, Brighton-based Soccer96 introduce themselves.

“Our atoms were forged in the centre of a star furnace that exploded and scattered atoms across the galaxy where they eventually cooled and came together to form organic biomass lifeforms, of which we're some of the latest models.

“We bonded over a mutual love of John Bonham's drumming while in college, where we were part of a group of beatniks who would do experimental jazz jams with the lights out and improvised film soundtracks.

“Our main influences are a combination of Alan Watts, Flying Lotus, Can, and Led Zeppelin. We are psychedelic in the true definition of its dictionary meaning – we believe in using music as a tool to elevate our consciousness.

“The music is psychedelic in its nature and foundation rather than direct musical comparison with 1960s psyche rock.

“We released a self-titled EP in 2012. Our new EP Jupiter Masterdrive was released on November 24 on vinyl and digitally on Monday, December 1. Our new full LP will be released in 2015 on Slowfoot Records.

“Our plans for the future are to live in the now, as presently and potently as is possible. And also play lots of gigs.”

Soccer96 headline the main room at the Spectrum Synthesize Me special at Brighton Dome Studio Theatre on Saturday, December 6.

Also on the bill are Hamilton Yarns, Hypnotized, Japanese Sweets and Captain Poop Deck. Doors open 7.30pm, tickets £4. Call 01273 709709.
