VOCALIST and guitarist Thomas Himsworth introduces international rock trio LongDistanceRunning as they prepare to play their third show.
“We met using the ubiquitous online musicians wanted ads on Gumtree. I come from Scotland, Ferdi (guitar/ backing vox/ howls) from Spain and Dave (drums/ percussion) from Australia all somehow converged in wonderful Brighton town.
“Most of our tunes to date have first been sketched by myself and then re-worked as a band. Often it’s a process of structuring previously unstructured meanderings into more coherent pieces: Dave brings the rhythms, Ferdi brings the hooks and I bring the Edinburgh accent.
“Somebody said we sound like early Mogwai and Arab Strap which made me happy. We’ve only played two shows. The best was the last one at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar in November. We shared the bill with Degree of Arc, a very polished post-rock affair, and the inimitable Edit Your Hometown whose singer left the gig with a dislocated shoulder after punching the ceiling – top class!
“We’re recording our debut EP this year. We’ve had about 3,500 plays of our tunes overall on Soundcloud and as most of those are just home demos, that’s encouraging.”
