Fresh from being named Godlike Geniuses at the NME Awards, Britpop pioneers Suede are playing Bexhill this summer.

Tickets go on sale on Friday for the show, which will be at the De La Warr Pavilion on Thursday, June 25.

Led by Lindfield-born vocalist Brett Anderson - who was responsible for creating the band’s grimy romantic world through his lyrics about council estates and picnics by the motorway – Suede’s self-titled debut album earned them the Mercury Music Prize in 1993.

After the making of lushly orchestrated fan-favourite follow-up Dog Man Star co-songwriter Bernard Butler left to embark on a solo career as a guitarist for hire, songwriter and producer.

But the band carried on, recruiting 17-year-old Richard Oakes to play on their international hit album Coming Up in 1996 – which was packed with anthems including Trash, Film Star and She.

Following 1998’s divisive Head Music and the stylistic change of A New Morning (2002) the band disintegrated – only reuniting for a Teenage Cancer Trust show in 2010.

The band continued as a live outfit before the release of sixth album Bloodsports in 2013 which broke the UK top ten. There is talk of another album on the way for 2015.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10am on Friday, March 20, and cost £27 from 01424 229111 or www.dlwp.com/
