THIS pair from London are shaped by influences from all corners of the capital. They frame jazz within the bass-saturated pirate radio broadcasts of the UK capital. The duo, made up of Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu) hail from south east London, crossing paths in 2007 as teenagers playing their first pub gigs around Peckham and Camberwell. Dayes drums for afrobeat outfit United Vibrations while Williams has made waves with his solo synth house music. Their debut album, Black Focus, is out now.

THIS three-piece veer between from effect-laden guitars, an arsenal of sci-fi synths, deep sub-bass, big riffs and audacious drum patterns that both underpin and define their sound. Their promotional blurb says they are “something of a vortex, creating a swirling mass of layered sound that sucks one in, possessing that rare ability of managing to sound complex and fluid while eschewing any feelings of pomposity or sterility”.
