It's not the first time Peggy Sue and the Pirates have supported Peter Bjorn and John, although the pair are hoping their behaviour backstage isn't the same as the last time.

Twenty-two year-old Rosa Rex, who formed the band with 21-year-old Katy Klaw only 18 months ago, says: "We were first support as opposed to the main support, so me and Katy got really drunk.

"One of Peter Bjorn and John wasn't there so we went around telling everyone they weren't really Peter Bjorn and John, they were Peter Bjorn and someone else.

"Their people weren't very happy"

The last 18 months have been a fast ride for the old schoolfriends, who originate from London but came to Brighton to study at the University of Sussex.

Rosa, who now lives in Hanover, has just finished her English Literature degree, while Katy is on the final year of her Film and American Studies course.

"Katy had been singing a bit," says Rosa. "She got offered a gig and said: Come play with me'.

"We sang a song we had written together that afternoon, and then one of my songs and one of her songs and harmonised. It all progressed from there.

"We were supporting the woman from Morcheeba Skye Edwards who was doing a solo gig, and that day we said our name was Peggy Sue and the Pirates.

"We got a line in The Argus saying that name so we had to stick with it, because it was written in The Argus! We later found out there is a Pete and the Pirates so we might have to fight them for the name."

This October sees the girls release their first double A-side single on their own label, featuring favourites Television and New Song.

"Both songs are on our Myspace," says Rosa. "They are two of our oldest songs so we wanted to get them out there so it gives us more space to start releasing new material.

"We are really excited - we get to create our own record company!"
