Olly Murs is preparing himself for the hysteria when he hits the road with One Direction on their US tour.

The former X Factor runner-up, who is supporting the chart-topping boyband on their American dates, has only high praise for the group, comprised of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.

"It's been crazy but it's been great. Both 1D and The Wanted have done so well in Europe and in America," he said.

"It's not easy for boybands to do well over there so the fact that they have is great. A lot of boybands have struggled in the past, but they haven't so fingers crossed I can go over there and hopefully do all right."

Olly, who performed at MTV Presents Titanic Sounds in Belfast, joked that he's not playing second fiddle to the boyband.

"The guys have done so so well, and I'm sure if I went over there before them and had a number one album, if there was an opportunity for them to come on tour with me, they would."

He added: "I'm going over there to showcase me as an artist and try to build a fanbase. Regardless of what happens, I don't have any high expectations."

:: MTV Presents Titanic Sounds will air on MTV UK on May 5.
