The rock ‘n’ roll variety show with Christmas songs, wacky comedy routines and uncanny impressions provided the audience with a lively alternative to the traditional carol concert.

The cast of versatile singers, backed by a slick five-piece band, covered festive favourites and hits from the 1950s to the 1970s.

It opened with a fast paced medley of Walking In A Winter Wonderland, Run Run Rudolph and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and went on to pay tributes to stars including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Brenda Lee and Cliff Richard.

The latter was exceptionally well performed, with almost identical mannerisms and vocals. It received the loudest cheers of the night from the crowd.

The highlight was a hilarious parody of My Favourite Things, with the lyrics changed to reference senior moments, Viagra and bus passes.

Mini pantomime, Aladdin, followed. It was as camp as Christmas and packed with energetic slapstick and adult humour. The script was cheeky but never offensive.

This seasonal production featured plenty of costume changes and the stage was full of beautiful festive decorations. It was a first class show, but backing dancers may have made it even better.

Packed with Christmas cheer, this was an enjoyable evening of feel-good music, end-of-the-pier humour and nostalgia.
