West End star Michael Ball will return to Chichester Festival Theatre for its summer musical, four years after his multi-award-winning role as Sweeney Todd.
He is taking the lead role in the musical Mack And Mabel, based on the true romance between Hollywood stars Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand.
This production of Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman’s Tony-nominated 1974 musical will be directed in the newly refurbished main house at Oaklands Park by Chichester Festival Theatre’s artistic director Jonathan Church, working alongside choreographer Stephen Mear and designer Robert Jones.
Following the Chichester premiere, which runs from Monday, July 13 to Saturday, September 5, the musical will go on a national tour taking in Plymouth, Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Cardiff between Thursday, October 1 and Sunday, December 6.
Mack And Mabel is the first show to be revealed from this year’s Chichester Festival Theatre programme – which is usually announced when tickets go on sale at the end of February.
