Originally a brutal criticism of the ideology of Nazism invading the hearts and minds of the people of Romania, Eugene Ionesco's play has been twisted to look at modern-day England's wrongs.

The Icarus Theatre Collective examines how tradition, honour and respect is being replaced by capitalist greed and consumer righteousness in the setting of a school lesson.

The action centres on a mild-mannered scatty scholar teaching a bright-eyed student a basic maths lesson. Before long, the wide-eyed innocence of the pupil turns the teacher into a bullying tyrant.
