Brighton Fringe: Otherplace

The Warren, St Peter’s Green, Brighton, Saturday, May 7 to Sunday, June 5

FROM adult fairy tales to scientific investigations of blowing off, The Warren is offering a wide variety within its 159 Fringe shows this May.

And the site behind St Peter’s Church is set to change again this year. The returning Theatre Box venue – built from former storage containers – will be joined by Main House – a 250-seater theatre tent in the shape of a bowler hat.

And there are two smaller studios seating 50 and 60 people at a time.

The extensive programme of theatre, cabaret, comedy, dance and spoken word will be accompanied by free family workshops in The Den. And the venues will be joined by a coffee shop, food stalls and two bars creating a true festival within a festival atmosphere.

Tickets go on sale today for the full programme. Highlights include returning favourites The Biggest Marionette Circus In The World, the fourth instalment of one-man film noir Bane and Argus Angel-winning mask theatre team Vamos with the 1960s-set The Best Thing.

Plus there will be another chance to see The Marlowe Papers, which debuted at The Basement earlier this year, the return of Secret Opera with last year’s hit CarMen and new show Madama Butterfly featuring a male lead.

Comedian Samantha Baines turns her attention to science in One Woman A Dwarf Planet And Two Cox, Blushed dances through a series of fairy tales for adults, and Windibops explores flatulence in the company of Volta Flatulence, Caroline Windybottom and Daisy Parphead.
