TWO storytellers go head to head in a crazy battle of wits and physical idiocy in a new show by an award-winning children’s theatre company.

Called Storyteller, Storyteller, it incorporates zany slapstick physical sketches as part of a journey into the madcap world of two clowns.

Two storytellers arrive in the same place at the same time, each of them thinking they are the only storyteller.

On realising they have a rival in each other, they do their utmost to out-do each other.

A battle over a stick takes them to a high-wire, a manic disco and even a swimming pool as they try to win the right to tell their stories.

Put on by Story Pocket Theatre, the show was a hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last August and comes to Brighton Fringe for the closing weekend at The Warren, one of the more family-friendly venues as part of this year's festivities.

Storyteller, Storyteller was devised by the original cast of Ashley Bates and Luke Pitman with co-directors Julia Black and Adam Fletcher-Forde.

Adam says, “All our shows have a storyteller to guide the cast and the audience through the stories we tell.

“We thought it might be fun to find out what would happen if the Arabian Nights and Grimms storytellers met.

“We honestly didn’t know how the show would develop until we got into the rehearsal room for the first time – and the result was unexpected but so funny. It’s wonderful to see and hear children and adults just helpless with laughter.”

Story Pocket Theatre has been winning acclaim and awards since it was formed in 2013, including The Primary Times Children’s Choice Award and a coveted Three Weeks Editors’ Choice Award for its outstanding contribution to children’s theatre.

It has had sell-out hits with Arabian Nights, The Nutcracker and A Pocketful of Grimms, touring throughout the country and abroad.

A Pocketful of Grimms runs at the Rialto Theatre in Dyke Road, Brighton, on the same days at 11am.
