The Little Theatre bring their darker take on the bard's woodland fairytale to the stage this week before taking the production to Lewes Castle for a run of outdoor performances. Harry Atkinson at the Little Theatre says the company has aimed to bring something different to one of Shakespeare's most familiar plays.

"We have sought to explore the physicality of the play and the opportunities for physical comedy it presents," he says.

"Tragedy and comedy have many elements in common and our production seeks out darker aspects of the play with an ambivalent and sometimes threatening Puck."

After the play has closed at Brighton Little Theatre, the cast will decamp to Lewes Castle from Wednesday, August 20 to Saturday, August 23. Audiences are invited to take a picnic to these performances.

  • Starts at 7.45pm at the Little Theatre. Tickets £7.50 (£10 at Lewes Castle). Call 01273 777748 or email tickets@the-little.co.uk
