Brittle bones

I am really worried about myself because my mum has developed "brittle bone disease". As a result, she has got quite stooped over and has had several fractures. Will the same thing happen to me?

Not if you take care of yourself. Osteoporosis ("brittle bone disease") is a threat to most British women as they get older. That's why so many old ladies are bent over, since the bones in their spines have collapsed. But you can prevent this happening to you by avoiding alcohol and smoking, taking plenty of exercise and making sure you get the recommended daily amounts of calcium and vitamin D. For more information, visit the National Osteoporosis Society's website: www.nos.org.uk
