Feel the magic

PRAISE in the most recent Ofsted Report of 2006 confirmed what many already knew - Windlesham School in Brighton is an excellent school with an exciting future.

This is a truly independent school for boys and girls aged three to 11 years in that it is not a "feeder"

school to any particular group of schools. This fact means we prepare our children to move on at the end of year six to any one of many independent and state schools.

Windlesham's aim is simply that pupils leave as confident and caring children who are eager to learn, having had a thorough and enriched primary education while in the school's care. A good teacher to pupil ratio and excellent teaching contributes to this.

This academic year, Windlesham welcomed a new deputy headteacher, Judith Waite. Judith joined the school in 2005 as English co-ordinator and now oversees the development of the whole school curriculum, as well as the assessment and tracking of children's progress.

Although the school broadly follows the National Curriculum, it has, as an independent school, the flexibility to add to and extend its schemes of work.

For example, looking at one play by William Shakespeare is suggested as part of the National Curriculum English programme for children in year six. However, children leave Windlesham School having experienced five or six of the Bard's works in addition to taking part in Shakespeare workshops with professional actors. This is all excellent preparation for their future studies at senior school.

Independence also allows the school to organise the delivery of the curriculum to add a richness to the children's learning. All children from nursery through to year six have French, ICT, music, PE and swimming lessons with specialist teachers.

Windlesham School is looking forward to celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year, and retains many traditions. However, education should be a balance of continuity and change if children are to be equipped for the future and Windlesham School is very much a school that is looking forward to that future.

For example, part of the school's development plan is to ensure facilities for teaching and learning are modern and will allow for innovative learning experiences for each pupil and most of the classrooms are already equipped with interactive whiteboards.

Parents play an integral part at Windlesham with their child's education and all are invited to take part in functions organised by the Parents' Association, Friends Of Windlesham.

Busy working parents can drop off their children at 8.10am, before the school day commences. Clubs are available after school offering a range of interesting activities from chess to rugby.

Pay a visit to Windlesham and see the extensive facilities and feel the magic of this special learning environment.

Please telephone 01273 553645 for an appointment or visit on Spring Open Day on Friday, February 8, to see the school in action.
