Neal Aplin emails: “I am working on my wartime family history from the First World War. A Brighton man named Private Joseph Carter (service number 10938) died alongside my relative Lance Corporal Douglas Aplin during the Battle of Cambrai, France on November 25, 1917 while serving with the 15th (the Kings) Hussars. Joseph and Douglas were good friends and Joseph’s mother’s name and address are recorded in the war diary of Douglas.

Since the last post time has been flying past and now that we are in Beijing the Olympics (and partying) are our number one focus. We travelled Shanghai to Beijing via overnight train in a sleeper.
