A Brighton man named Private Joseph Carter (service number 10938) died alongside my relative Lance Corporal Douglas Aplin during the Battle of Cambrai, France on November 25, 1917 while serving with the 15th (the Kings) Hussars. Joseph and Douglas were good friends and Joseph’s mother’s name and address are recorded in the war diary of Douglas.
