Everyone seems to want the answer to television’s Who Do You Think You Are, as this column frequently shows.

In fact, discovering more about ancestors, building family trees and writing biographies have become the fastest growing hobbies in the UK and America. But where do you start?

Biographer and creative writing lecturer John Jenkins is holding a series of day-long workshops in Brighton to help you tackle your family history and biography.

John will cover the basics of research and give you advice on how to plan and write your book. He will also provide guidance on essential short cuts to information using primary and secondary sources, and on how to go about publishing your book without being ripped off.

The workshops are taking place on Saturdays, September 27, October 4 and October 11, at The Journalist Works based in Argus House in Hollingbury.

For further information and to register, visit www.journalistworks.co.uk, email info@journalistworks.co.uk or call 01273 540350.

The course costs £125 + VAT or £99 for concessions (people over 60).
