From September, OFSTED will take over responsibility for regulating childcare services from Croydon Council.
Under the new Care Standards Act 2000, the Early Years directorate of OFSTED will inspect nurseries, pre-schools, out-of-school care and childminders for children up to eight years.
Croydon's cabinet member for education, Councillor Louisa Woodley, said that the new national regulation will ensure consistency of standards.
