Wrestle mania grips Croydon

10:19am Monday 22nd October 2001

Wrestling fever gripped Croydon last week and then gave the town a body slam.

The Fairfield was packed out to see American stars and British talent battle it out last Tuesday as part of a nationwide tour organised by All Star Promotions of Merseyside.

One of the stars of the night was world wrestling champion Tatanka, who was a big hit with the fans in his American Indian costume.

He told the Guardian: "It was great to wrestle in Croydon in front of a good crowd. I love coming to wrestle in the UK because you have such great crowds over here. I once wrestled in front of 80,000 at Wembley Arena."
