Old Mid-Whitgiftians251-5 Old Alleyian 195
A spell of 5-25 from all-rounder Andy Blackmore finally defeated a spirited Old Alleynian side and kept Old Mid-Whitgiftian's Old Boys League hopes alive with a 56-run victory.
Acting skipper Robert Warne's unbeaten 74 and Mark Abberley's 49 had earlier set up a commanding total of 251-5. Alleynians began their reply in a similar vein as openers Omar Faruqui (39) and Stephen Mayers (26) scored at five runs per over in the first 15 overs.
But the required run-rate had crept up to eight per over.
Wicketkeeper Blackmore came on to bowl, claimed the wicket of Clark and triggered a dramatic collapse as Blackmore and Warne (3-12) took the last eight wickets in tandem for just 29 runs.
