This picture is of Castle Square in Brighton, with part of Hannington’s department store on the left. The store has since closed and been replaced by smaller shops but most buildings look much the same now as they did then.
The bus is a 1934 AEC Regent with only 52 seats and it is travelling westwards towards North Street.
Street decorations were put up for the coronation of King George VI in May 1937. He was monarch during the Second World War and died in 1952.
The photograph was taken by Jack Turley and is in the Dinnages Picture Library, Hove. Visit www.transportpostcards.co.uk
