This picture of Rottingdean crossroads shows how quiet it was in those days – not a car is in sight. There are even people walking in the road, which would be impossible today.
The dominant building here was a branch of Barclays Bank which has long since closed.
Haydn Williams, who sent in the picture, says it also includes a little bit of his father’s shop with the word WIRE (short for wireless) which can be seen behind the bank. He used to build radios.
He was forced to move the shop to the other side of the street because of road widening, which never happened, and the building is still in use today.
