These two street musicians delighted Brighton passers-by for many years before, during and after the Second World War.
Historian David Rowland, who sent in the picture, said, “They made a good living from the cash people gave them in the street. They were two of the best street entertainers.”
Harpist Frederick Alexander and Joseph Marcantonio, the violinist, usually played in East Street. But on VE Day in May 1945, they went to busy West Street and made more money from people celebrating peace than they had ever done before.
There was little competition in those days and the standard of their musicianship was high.
