Leicester Street in Brighton disappeared in a post-war slum clearance scheme for areas around Edward Street. But in its day it was a lively shopping street as this picture from the collection of historian David Rowland shows.
Mr Rowland knew the street well and liked it as it was part of his beat when he was a patrolling police officer.
He says: “The people living in these old houses always had an open door approach to their local bobby and were very friendly to each other too.”
“This is a nice picture which for me captures old Brighton.”
