The Regent ballroom in North Street was a popular attraction in Brighton for many years with its famous springy floor.
It was at the Clock Tower and next door to the Regent cinema, one of the biggest and most luxurious in Britain.
David Rowland, who sent in the picture, asks: “I wonder just how many people met and married as a result of dancing there.”
This picture was taken in 1957 and after that the Regent declined as many youngsters preferred rock’n’roll to big bands.
Bandleader Syd Dean vainly tried to reopen it after closure in the 1960s but the building was demolished and replaced by Boots.
