Station Road, Portslade
Station Road in Portslade is unusual in forming only one side of the street heading south towards the sea. The other side, Boundary Road, is in Hove.
It is now a main shopping street but over a century ago, when this picture was taken, it was more residential than commercial. Here it looks peaceful, with little traffic.
The retail hub of Portslade was then North Street which runs westwards from Station Road close to Wellington Road. It had dozens of shops and two cinemas.
Gradual the shops migrated to Station Road, especially north of Franklin Road. North Street was largely rebuilt in the 1960s and is still home to many businesses.
