Brighton beach
Fishing has always been a main industry in Brighton and there were many boats on the beach in this picture of a century ago.
But the fish market was moved inland in the 1960s despite protests, and the fleet is now based at Brighton Marina.
When the Lower Esplanade was improved in the 1990s a fishing quarter was reinstated, including a museum, and has proved highly popular.
The annual mackerel fayre takes place there from 12.30pm, on Sunday May 13, attended by Mayor Anne Meadows.
It will include entertainment, music and the blessing of the nets by Father Robert Fayers.
