This view of the Royal Pavilion’s North Gate in Brighton has not changed a great deal over the last century.

The gate is on the near left with the Dome and Corn Exchange further along Church Street.

At one time the gate building was to have been used as a toy museum but Brighton Council never had the funds to finance this despite holding a large number of toys in reserve.

Two trams can be seen on the right-hand side. They were introduced in 1901 and ran successfully until 1939 when they were replaced with trolleybuses which were more flexible.

The picture was sent in by John Stanaway of Hove.
