Luke Wright powered to the third-fastest hundred in Twenty20 history and declared: "It's a dream come true."

The 22-year-old all-rounder scored 103 off just 45 balls as Sussex beat Kent by seven wickets to win their first game of the season in the competition.

Wright, whose previous best in the competition was 26, hit six sixes and 11 fours.

Afterwards he admitted he owed his team-mates a performance with the bat after conceding 45 in four overs during Kent's innings.

He said: "It's a dream come true - 100 off 45 balls, I'll take that!

"It's about time because I was disappointed not to get any runs against Essex last Friday and then I bowled terribly. I was really annoyed with myself so I went out determined to redeem the situation.

"I had a bit of luck but we have all done loads of work in practice trying to hit into different areas. On another day I could easily have been caught in the deep but things went my way."

Sussex head to the Rose Bowl to play Hampshire tonight (Wednesday, 7.30pm) with spirits high after a victory which has revived their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Wright added: "It was a very special moment personally and hopefully it will give us a springboard to get another win tonight."
