There was no love lost between a restaurateur and Gordon Ramsay when the TV chef came to the rescue of a failing seafood eaterie.

The foul-mouthed chef was even thrown out of Ruby Tate's seafood restaurant by owner Allan Love, who did not think he needed any help in saving his business.

The restaurant, in St James's Street, Brighton, which changed its name to Love's under Ramsay's instruction, is the first to feature in the new series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 9pm.

Love's is owned and run by ex-actor Mr Love. It is situated in Kemp Town one street back from the beach.

Ironically, Mr Love has never tasted any of the dishes at the oyster and seafood restaurant because he hates fish.

Mr Love was losing £1,500 a week when Ramsay turned up at his business.

Ramsay told him there was an urgent need to get back to basics, galvanise the staff and produce great and simple food to bring the punters back before it was too late.

The programme was filmed in July and was described as a "traumatic week" by Mr Love. The chef also fell into the sea at Brighton Marina while walking the plank in a team-building exercise.

Mr Love said: "After Gordon Ramsay's makeover Ruby Tates is now deceased, and rising out of the ashes is Love's fish restaurant, an exciting new restaurant concept.

"Thank you Gordon for your conceptual foresight and input and thanks all who visited Ruby's over the past year."

What is the best restaurant you have ever eaten in? Tell us below.

Our favourite restaurant in the city is Casa Don Carlos in the Lanes. Truly authentic tapas, delicious food, great menu, great service, good value and a terrific atmosphere. No wonder it's always busy. Our friends are so pleased that we introduced them to this wonderful restaurant.

The best fish restaurant in town has to be Riddle & Finns in the lanes. Great food, great atmosphere and good value considering the quality on offer.

It was hardly difficult to give "Love's" the advice Gordon gave, it was obvious from the first day "Ruby Tate's" opened.

I must agree (rather suprisingly) with F&S on this one. I am wondering how they fit in the time for eating out due to their crime fighting commitments.

Its getting a bit much all these celebrity restaurants now. First we had Momma Cherries which was on gordons first show, then we have the tea cosy (the tea nazi) which i see are now expanding and now this place. Im sure they all do well out of it but the smaller places loose all thier trade to them

Please don't encourage the "gruesome twosome" by agreeing with them. They are literally quite mad, in my opinion.

Having recently eaten in Love's Fish Restaruant formerly known as Ruby Tate's, I can honestly say it was the best fish I have eaten in a long time in Brighton!!

One of the best new restaurants to open this year is The Meadow on the south side of the Floral Clock Gradens, Hove.

Great service, light & spacious restaurant and superb food. The sunday lunch is the best i've had -mostly local produce

We get the strong feeling that it is you posting in our names. You seem to take great delight in ridiculing us and our lives. Presumably you have one? Get on with it then or post something relevent to the topic concerned, as we did, if you took the trouble to read our post earlier on this subject.

Ruby Tates was awful.
We recently tried 'Loves' and to our surprise it is great. Gordon Ramsay worked a treat. The only awful thing about this restaurant is the dreadful Mr Love! Leave it to the great staff - who really look after you - and the food which is great and moderately prices. We used to be customers of Riddle & Finns which is about a £100 for 3 course for two including wine - but the equivalent at Loves is about £65 - great value!

Most restaurants in Brighton are best avoided. Very poor standards.

Gingerman is an exception.

I think anything to help local companies to raise the standards and lower the price cant be a bad thing. Theres a 100 other **** places to waste money in in brighton.Just keep Ramsey away from Terre Terre Its already perfect and plus he CAN'T cook vegetarian food anyway.

Fiona and Sara, Brighton says...

We have been thinking of turning vegetarian for some time now. We would still like to eat out but Terre a Terre is a little pricey. Can you recommend any other good vegetarian restaurants in the area?

I'm not a fan of Gordon's but it's clear that he has helped turn Ruby Tate's into a busy restaurant under its new name and menu. The quality remains as good as ever and that's why I'm a regular - before Gordon even arrived. Looking forward to seeing the show when I get back from eating at Love's tomorrow! It really is a lovely, friendly restaurant and that's down to Alan. But please bring back the squid, fab dish with the lime and coriander mayonnaise!

We went to Riddle & Finns a half hour after Gordon Ramsay had been there for an early dinner. The staff were still buzzing from the praise he heaped upon the food. He was checking out what opposition there was for Ruby Tates to beat.

Concur, eating is difficuilt in Be-Right-On. The standards are very very poor. Gingerman is very good, however the arogance of the booking 'LAW' at the Ginger Pig has driven me away from this group. Try the Arogant Frog, its not bad, otherwise go to London.

Well I lost all respect for this bloke - Sorry but he asks for someone's help, one of the best chefs in the world, then he acts like a complete you know what and kicks him out - that is arrogant - I mean he was the one who asked for help what's the use of asking someone for help and kicking them out your bloody restaurant ? He kicked out a good person and I think he needs help with both his restaurant and his personality !

sophie, wimbledon says...
3:18pm Mon 5 Nov 07

rimmer66 do you know him? Then don't judge. He was going through a major crisis and reacting defensively, and to agree to be shown on TV breaking down like that (and inviting reactions like yours) shows tremendous personal courage. I knew him years ago, he was an incredibly strong character, god knows what must have happened to change him but now he is getting back that strength and self respect, and I for one wish him all the best.

lianna, london says...

I echo everything Sophie has said, I hear that Allan himself is far too busy running his now very successful restaurant (and doing so extremely well) to read the previous totally uncalled for personal attack. Let's hope it's deleted, it has no place here.
