Faulty traffic lights signal long delays

Drivers are experiencing long delays after a car crashed into traffic lights, knocking them out.

The accident happened at about 7am this morning on the A27 at the Sussex Pad junction at Shoreham.

Officers from Sussex Police have sealed off the westbound filter lane for Shoreham Airport while investigations are carried out and the area is made safe.

The lights are currently out of order and long delays are expected.

How on earth can you crash into traffic lights on that part of the road? Were they drunk, speeding or just plain stupid? These are the drivers that should be banned for a long time - get them off the road.

I must agree that these drivers should not be on the road, however the evidence here suggests that this is exactly what the driver decided to do - on the basis that the traffic light was not previously in the road he must have gone off road looking for it!

Lets now wait for the complaints about the Police shutting bits of the road.

last time i drove past there, the traffic lights were definitely NOT on the road, someone had clearly forseen this problem, and convienently moved them to the side of the road

OK big balls you seem to know it all or are you to dumb to know that possibly after the dry conditions on road followed by a shower of rain the driver may have hit a grease patch and was unable to avoid colliding with traffic light

I go through there twice a day since it's on my way to work. While I don't know what happened in this particular instance there's no doubt that cars do drive to fast along that stretch.

I reckon the best solution is to get rid of the bloody things altogether. The whole of the A27 has to grind to a shuddering halt just so two cars can come from Coombs and three from the airfield (which can be accessed from the A259 anyway). There's a roundabout at each end of that stretch, at Holmbush and Lancing Manor, so just make those cars filter left and turn round at the roundabout. Much safer.

As you point out, unless you are very dumb, you know there might be a greasy patch, and therefore you should allow for it. You should therefore slow down and be able to avoid a collision. Read your highway code! Yes, the driver should be banned.

I can understand that but if you are such a good driver you should know that in such conditions you should slow down.
Too many people go fast at those lights to try and get through before they change - and no I am not dumb but I do know it all!!

Did it ever occurr to any of you that it might have been a genuine accident?
Perhaps you ought to stop slating the driver until you are in posession of facts and not just your own little made up ideas about what might have happened.

Accidents do happen you know.

Why does the headline say 'Faulty traffic lights signal long delays', and the actual story is about someone driving into them. Did they drive into them because they were faulty? If not, then they are not faulty, they were damaged. Bad reporting Argus, mind you, I've never seen good reporting by the Argus.

er actually the likelihood is that someone was driven off the road by the likes of some maniac driver.

and he or she probably hit the control box, not the actual traffic lights, which is usually positioned in a really inconvenient location close by.

The driver was probably driving to fast and not concentrating on the traffic lights and was frightened of getting caught by the red light camera.

Well in that case he was travelling too fast then - and should still be prosecuted.

Someone once said that Traffic Lights do not stop cars. As Captain Bertorelli would say, "What a Mistakah to Maykah".
