Road re-opened after collision causes gridlock

A seafront road was closed for almost four hours after an accident between a motorcycle and a car.

The collision between the green Range Rover and blue motorcycle happened in King's Road, in front of Brunswick Terrace, Hove, at about 12.25pm.

Police and paramedics attended and drivers faced lengthy tailbacks.

A stretch of King's Road was closed and motorists were diverted to Western Road, causing gridlock on the seafront road packed with day-trippers and shoppers.

A police spokesman described the accident as "serious".

The road was re-opened at about 4pm.

The motorcyclist is said to have suffered leg injuries but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed a man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but could not confirm the extent of his injuries.

I did not witness the collision, however as I was driving past madeira drive looking for a place close to west pier, we crossed through a hotel parking bay and saw the blue motorcycle on its side with the front smashed, and on the other side people standing around a man laying motionless on the floor.

Considering motorcycle accident was the cause of the death of my father this was quite upsetting and distracted me from when I was diving until I just saw this article

I'm very glad to hear that the rider is still alive, and suffering no life-threatening injuries, best of luck!

I was on the beach nearby when the accident happened and heard the very loud crash. A lot of people stood up to see what had happened. The paramedics were there for a considerable time before eventually taking him off to hospital. I've checked here tonight as I was concerned that it was a very serious injury if not fatal. I'm glad to hear it's not life threatening and wish him a speedy recovery.

But why the hell was the road closed for FOUR HOURS on a Saturday????!!!!
The motorcyclist can't have been lying in the road for that length of time.
Find the answer to THAT question - Argus.

Glad to hear the biker is okay - we were caught up in the delays (we were on a motorbike) that day & saw the aftermath - chilling. As bikers we have to have eyes & ears and sixth sense on cars, pedestrians & everyone to safeguard ourselves but usually get the blame when things go wrong - best of luck with your recovery.

Glad your ok Kev.but how appropriate your name is Nobby, saying typical wreckless biker in your comment. Perhaps if your read the comment of the rider involved you will see that as is so often the case it was the typical inattentive car driver to blame for this accident. And before you start yes i am a car driver and a motorcycle rider too and it is so more often a car driver to blame for motorbike accidents and also as was the case here you don't even have to be going 30mph to sustain serious injuries. Perhaps you should stop tarring all motorcyclists with the same brush the overwhelming majority are not full throttle everywhere speed freaks as you seem to imply.
