MIcky Adams wants to put a swift end to the Adam El-Abd transfer saga.

The new Albion manager is also due to meet with chief scout Barry Lloyd as he plots his team building for 2008-9.

El-Abd, coming off his best season for the club so far, is out of contract this summer and has yet to sign what he admits is "a fair offer" as he weighs up family issues.

The Seagulls boss said: "Adam is away but I've spoken to his agent and we will be expecting an answer shortly.

"What I also need to do is sit down with (chairman) Dick Knight and discuss player recruitment.

"I want to speak to Barry Lloyd and I'll be interested to hear his views on various players. We need more strength in depth in some areas."

Fans will be expecting a busy summer in the transfer market and Adams has admitted he might need more experienced players to help the side take the next step into a play-off berth.

He added: "That's not to say we won't sign good young players.

"I want to get the right balance of experience and young professionals at the club.

"I'm not talking openly about players I'm looking at because if I did we would be here all day."

I know it sounds hard but this why adams got the job.At best without Falmer we can do is Championship football, and as Brighton fans we all should be happy with that for now.Dick Knight is doing his best to look after the long term future of the club,if you people can't see that you are blind.

I am getting bored with the non-news Micky Adams stories, its obvious Al-Abd is on his way, waiting for his agent to get back to him????? its all been soundbites so far all fans are really interested in is who will be coming throught the door, hope Micky is looking at the Ipswich availability list, Harding Richards and Billy Clark all look very interesting

The "Adam El-Abd transfer saga", love the idea that a man not signing a piece of paper for several months is a 'saga'. Don't know about anyone else but I'm emotionally exhausted by all the endless twists and turns.

Why are so many people keen for Harding to return. He has never established himself at any of the clubs he has been to and turned his back on us before.

Harding is an established championship player who played 30 games for the Tractor Boys I would agree he hasn't quite reached the heights he should of, might be due to joining that crackpot outfit leeds United ( Micky Adams favourite team?????) Ipswich now have loads of money and will be looking to attract premiership players and I would welcome back Harding. I never heard Harding slag off the club and I am sure he would be welcomed back

Believe that when I see it happen. Would have thought Reading would be looking to offload players after being relegated rather than sign them,

Are you clinically insane?! He was abismal 80% of the time he played for us. Had couldn't mark a dead cow and has less strength than a 1 month old baby! Yes i admit occassionally he was quality, and i mean OCCASSIONALLY. But to even think of suggesting he'd be 'welcomed back' is ridiculous. The man who promised he would sign a new contract then walks out the door to the scum of Leeds? No thanks. Also i note your sarcastic comment re Adams and Leeds. Funnily enough a man who spent a couple of years there still has some affection for the club, and i'm sure there are a lot of people who want them out of the league. If we are going for promotion they will be major contenders next year without points deductions.

Forget Clark and Harding but Richards is a must for Brighton!

As for El-Abd, I can't see Reading signing for him. In fact I can't see any bigger club going for him! If he has got any sense he will sign the contract which is on the table.

The one thing we don't need is any more youngsters!

Players aged 21 or under at the club:

Sullivan 20
Lynch 20
Elphick 20
Robinson 21
Cox 20
Fraser 20
Loft 20
Chamberlain 20
Fogden 20
Gatting 20
Gargan 20

That's over half the squad!

Whing (23), El-Abd (23), Hinshelwood (24), Murray (24) and Dixon (24) are also aged under 25.

Only Kuipers, Thomson and Forster could be regarded as senior players.

Experience is what we need. I would like to see us sign Richards, Leven, Westlake and Gillespie this summer. We also need QUALITY rather than quantity!

Nick, I thinks it a bit harsh accusing me of being clinically insane maybe a little bit simple and I think Micky Adams talking about his affection for leeds is a bit like telling the mrs. how much you loved your ex. league 1 next season without Leeds and Forest would be very dull although it might make progress easier but there are no guarantees.

Bert, Crowborough says...

I have read all your comments on Dan Harding and I think your judgement of him is harsh and unwarrenetd, I was lucky to meet him on a few occasions where he treated me like a friend not just a supporter, he was very down to earth and was totally commited to this club, as for saying he was rubbish, I cant see any club laying out money for rubbish players especially Leeds he had quality, not only is he a good player but also a good person. You forget it is the agents that do all the wealing and dealing they are the one's that dont care about clubs only lining there pockets so he would have been advised to take a better offer, and I bet any of you would. Reading what you put on here is disgraceful you slag the club the team the players your own supporters especially the woman, are they not allowed to have there say, and call other clubs like Leeds scum. You are not supporters you give this club a bad name and image why dont you neanderthalls crawl back to what ever rocks you came out of. You are no better than the thugs that ruined the name of Rangers supporters

martyn, you cannot even get their ages right!!

Martyn, says...
8:34pm Mon 19 May 08

To the above poster get a life! So I got the age Loft wrong by one year. So what? My general point about the make up of the squad still applies.

I cannot believe we have promoted ANOTHER four scholars from the youth team! We now have twenty three players and are again likely to go in with a squad of 28.

Martyn, says...
9:25pm Mon 19 May 08

With the four scholars we now have 23 contracted players of whom fifteen are aged 21 or under and twenty are under 25!

I can't understand the logic in promoting ANOTHER four youngsters. It is not as if we didn't have enough already! What the squad lacks is experience. Only Kuipers, Forster and Thomson can be called experienced players.

As Alan Hansen once said you win nothing with kids!
