Playing for Albion is the new vogue

Micky Adams reckons Albion are turning Brighton and Hove into the place to be' for ambitious footballers.

That was the fledgling city's catchphrase during Adams' first stint as manager at Withdean seven years ago.

Now he believes the planned ground move and progress made last season has alerted players and agents to possibilities on the Sussex coast.

Adams is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer after the club released a host of players recently.

The Seagulls boss said: "I've received lots of phone calls already from agents.

"I think Brighton and Hove Albion as a club will be a very attractive proposition to players and agents bearing in mind we are two years away from moving into the new stadium.

"They had a good season here with the people here last season and we must not forget that.

"I've been having ongoing meetings and have met all the players other than a few who had prior permission to go away. I've been very busy."

Albion are expected to hear later this week whether Dean Wilkins will take up the coaching role he was offered when Adams replaced him as manager ten days ago.

It is also expected the club will receive confirmation as to whether the rest of the coaching staff will take up the offer to remain in posts they held when Wilkins was in charge.

this story is a non starter, of course agents are on the phone, thats there job!! there are 100s of players out of contract, so the agent gets on the phone, look at the clubs that have not paid players! luton and co, are two . on asmaller scale bognor are not paying , so the good go to best offer!! lets see some of these top players first and then i be happy! but a player released from chesterfield does not make rooney want to come here nice end fill about dean and staff though, surely dean and chapman have more back bone than take a job from the man who stabbed him in the back, thats adams and knight.

It is a pity how the to me unacceptable 'loan' system has grown within English /European football. If a team cant afford a players wages or cant offer him a regular game...let him go to a club who can ? That way the better players can become attached to their OWN club instead of "I'll put in a performance or two, learn from the experience and then go back to my real team"
The level of the playing squads in the lower leagues HAS to improve ???....ps if it took me 10 days (or longer) to decide on a job offer...I didnt really want that job in the first place !

Adams is a legend, wilkins did an excellent job but i think adams can do better in fact this year im expecting us to win league one....and the championship and the premiership, the fa cup, the carling cup, the paint trophy, the uefa cup, the world cup, the ryder cup, the ashes and the superbowl.

Adams is a complete whinger, loans loans loans = winning nothing odds on he walks when the going gets tough as per usual. The way Wilkins was dumped puts BHA in the Hoogstraten class.

Heard a rumour that Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o are on their way to the Withdean must be because its the place to be on a more serious note loking forward to some new arrival, does anybody what the transfer budget is? it would be very interesting to know

Look, Wilkins is gone, I was shocked to start with and am not convinced Adams is the right choice, but the reasons Wilkins is no longer MANAGER are not soley down to the position he finished in. He royally screwed up the player negotiations in the Winter and then didn't portray a united front with the chairman. It is not oonly DK that would have made this decision. The same people who are 'poor Dean'..ing it would no doubt have been in the 'sort it out and get some quality players in Wilkins' camp around December / January. We really on see the table, which to be honest, although better than last year, we were still a long way off getting into the play-offs in reality. I hope Dean stays as he is a GREAT coach, but he clearly struggled with the media and dealing with player contracts etc. I will actually trust the board as they know what is going on at the club better than I do, and have brought in Horton, Adams, Taylor, Coppel and McGhee, all reasonably high profile or successful managers.

Wilkins wasn't sacked because he failed. He had to improve on the previous season and he did so by 10 places. Having said that, whilst disappointed at the way the club have handled it, I do believe MA will be a better motivator for the players but would still like to see DW as coach. With regard to Georgie Worst, the loan system keeps some clubs going but I think it should be altered slightly. For example, clubs should not be able to buy someone and put them on a season long loan to a club in the same or higher division. Might make some of the big clubs more prudent in who they buy bu tc could also make quality players available to lower divisions, eg Prem players in Championship and Championship players in League One etc.

I agree with BHA Loyal - sport is also business - if we don't get back into the Championship next season, the financial implications will have a serious impact on fielding a team - the stadium won't pay for itself. Shame about Ray, good luck Mickie, see you in two seasons Steve?

We are too wrapped up in Falmer! No one cares about the new stadium except us! Every team has a stadium, we are just not used to having one and therefore think every player must now be desperate to play for us! It is solely down to how good we are. If we were in the premiership and played at the Withdean we may start to get some decent players through the door - but let's not put all our hopes and wishes on Falmer eh?

we are never going to get Falmer, I'm resigned to it ... wish a few more people would wake up and smell the coffee. It's all based on fairweather supporters which isn't a good start ...

I don't normally pay attention to rumours but apparently White has gone and Wilkins is going to be No.2 at QPR. If that is the case, I'll be interested to see who Sir Micky brings in. Let's hope it's someone from outside the club.

The point is Wilkins is a great coach, 100% committed to the Albion but not very inspiring to listen to. Whilst he does a good job talking to the media -he tends to say the same things in a rather flat, weary-sounding way!! On air he sometimes shows his frustration when players don't do as they've been told, and this comes across as very negative. Whilst his defensive tactics are good, he doesn't seem to have much flair for the creative and attacking strategies.
Having said that I'm not sure Adams is any better on strategy, but he is much more positive and happy(esp when things are going well), although from my recollection he can get introspective and over-react when things are not going well. I think they could work effectively as a team, so I hope this happens.

What makes you say that? Anything to back up your comments?

I think it is you that should be waking up and smelling the coffee because you clearly don't have a clue what is going on at the club at the moment regarding Falmer.

And if it's all the same to you I think I'll ignore your doom and gloom nonsense.

Pugwash ... you tell me where the money is coming from then ... we're not exactly an appealing prospect to lend money to when we can't even sell out Withdean ... and with the banks going into freefall ..... I suppose you are waiting a billionaire to turn up throwing a couple of hundred million here there and everywhere. Meanwhile the cost of raw materials, energy etc goes up ... think you need to start reading the business pages rather than page 3 ....

How about approaching Chris Eubank and Des Lynam, not forgetting Fatboy Slim who are all Brighton through and through. Katie Price was brought up in Brighton, Paul McCartney has a house on Shoreham-Beach.
David Golds is fed up with Birmingham, and has expressed an interest in investing in the club, although I think he sounds a bit ruthless and uncompromising. How about approaching Roman Abramovich? He has a 420 acre estate at Fynings near Rogate in West Sussex so he could spend a pleasant day at the seaside and pop into the Albion as well. He would like the colourful Brighton streets around Poets Corner as well as the Lanes. He could be our new Prince Regent. Of course - no way would we want to be a nursery club for Chelski, so that would have to be made clear. However, with that amount of land he could set up his own football academy.

nshelwood, and Chapman are non-league if that was not the case they would'nt be at the Albion. These people do not care about your lifes,or the club,so why care about them. Its just about money.Do the people in Pompey care where the players are from?Do they hell. There players work for them, and make them proud.Scum like El-Abd & Robinson are not big Albion fans they just want a free life off your backs. If El-Abd was such a big fan he would have signed weeks ago.The real fans, please let adams do his own thing.

Lets hope he brings in some good signings over the summer period, and we can get on our way! On the way to the championship! I expect a second place finish under MK dons, anything less is unacceptable as Wilkins would have got us in the play offs anyway. Then we can only pray we survive in the Championship untill hopefully we get the new stadium!
